Soap
opera writer Dinah Kaufman has a problem: She only loves the ones who leave. This
leaving love has its advantages - and its hilarities. After meeting successful
New York Playwright Rudy Gendler, Dinah realizes she may have finally found her
knight in shining armor (or an unreasonable facsimile). But all too soon their
unhappily-ever-after marriage comes to its inevitable, war-torn end, leaving both
hearts broken and bloody. Still Dinah (like the "polite masochist" she
is) finds temptation too sweet to resist going back for seconds, especially when
the writers' strike in Hollywood gives her dangerously free time to daydream about
what was and what could possibley still be.... Reality placed precariously on
a back burner, Dinah flees to the Hamptons, where Rudy and his newest flame are
also summering. As Dinah herself would say, "After all, nothing is ever really
over. Just over there."
