The True
Life Story of Isobel Roundtree ...opens
on November 21, 2963, the night before the assassination of President John F.
Kennedy. Just as the country is about to lose its collective innocence, 10-year-old
Isobel watches her own world disintegrate. Watching "The Red Skelton Show"
in her rural Indiana home, she hears the sounds of her mother packing her suitcae,
a routine event in the roundtree household. Only this time, she leaves.
Abandoned by her mother, invisible to her grief-dazed father, Isobel is nurtured
only by the stories of her great-grandmother Roundtree, who, as legend holds,
single-handedly chased away a lynch mob with an act of extraordinary theater.
Haunted by visitations from the shadowy Cat Man who is seeking her mother,
Isobel assumes the task of raising herself until the appearance of the engimatic
Emma Swallow, part shaman, part holy woman, who sets about restoring hope to the
Roundtree household.
Hardbound in excellent condition.
