The Universe and Wholeness

In the beginning there were five senses of perception:
     Hearing
     Touch
     Sight
     Taste
     Smell.
And everything in the universe is made up of five elements:
     Space (Hearing)
     Air (Touch)
     Fire (Sight)
     Water (Taste)
     Earth (Smell).
These five elements are combined into three basic governing principles -The three doshas
Vata represents the elements of Space and Air
Pitta represents the elements of Fire and Water
     Kapha represents Earth and Water.
We are each born with a unique combination of the doshas. There are seven possible constitutional types:
     Vata
     Pitta
     Kapha
     Vata-Pitta (Pitta-Vata)
     Pitta-Kapha (Kapha-Pitta)
     Vata-Kapha (Kapha-Vata)
     Vata-Pitta-Kapha

We can use our knowledge of the characteristics of the three doshas to gain understanding of ourselves and others.
